Wulguru Technical Services Pty Ltd – Heritage Minerals Upper Mundic Gully TSF – Fauna Survey Assessment Report 72 Due to the presence of conservation significant flora species within the Project area including Cycas megacarpa and Grevilliea hockingsii , a management plan for both these species will be provided. • Development and implementation of a Flora and Fauna Management Plan to identify and manage direct and indirect impacts to flora and fauna within and surrounding the Project area resulting from Project works. • Development and implementation of a Rehabilitation Management Plan to inform rehabilitation of disturbed areas. • A pre-clearance survey conducted by a suitably qualified person prior to construction to inform the requirement for an SMP or High-Risk SMP and an EMP. The pre-clearance survey should focus on niche habitats for potential EVNT species and breeding places (e.g., tree hollows, rock crevices) within the planned area of disturbance to increase the likelihood of observing an EVNT or conservation significant species potentially occurring within the Project area. If any breeding places are identified as being present within the proposed clearing, a drafted SMP including an Animal breeding place assessment report and Impact management plan must be submitted to the Department of Environment and Science (DES) for approval prior to construction commencement (DES, 2020). If approved, a Fauna Spotter Catcher is recommended to be present during all disturbance activities to minimise potential harm to fauna species within the disturbance area. • No observations of the NQ, Greater glider or Yellow-bellied glider were made during the field survey. The following observations/assessments were made about their potential to occur within the Project area and the potential for them to be impacted by the Project: o Northern Quoll: Although the Project area contains few habitat features, it is not sufficient to support the likely presence of suitable habitat, there is no evidence to suggest the Project area hosts an important population of the species. The Project is unlikely to significantly impact the species. o Greater Glider and Yellow-bellied glider: Although the Project area contains few hollow bearing trees/stags, the density of large trees is not sufficient to support a breeding population of either species. The Project is unlikely to significantly impact these species. 5.3. Recommendations Although no EVNT fauna species were observed during the field survey, a lack of observation does not confirm absence of the species. The habitat suitability within the Project area specific to the NQ, Greater glider and Yellow-bellied glider is considered low, therefore unlikely to support a significant population. There is no evidence to suggest important populations of the species inhabit the Project area. Several special least concern (SL), marine (Ma), and/or migratory (M) fauna species are also listed as potentially occurring within the Project area. During the surveys, one species listed as M under EPBC Act were observed within the Project area (Rainbow bee-eater ( Merops ornatus )) and as SL under the NC Act (Short-beaked Echidna ( Tachyglossus aceulatus )). Due to the potential presence of EVNT and conservation significant fauna species, WTS recommends the following:
