Camera traps were set up as shown in the Figure 3. Each site included one Reconyx Hyperfire 2™ Cellular Professional Covert IR camera, one bait canister and a chicken neck. The fixed motion sensor cameras were secured to tree trunks approximately 30 – 50 cm from the ground and directed at a downward angle towards a bait canister containing a chicken jerky dog treat (for longevity) and raw chicken neck underneath a rock. All cameras were set to be triggered during day and night at a high sensitivity. 2.3.3.2. Active Searches Figure 2 shows the tracks along which active searches and habitat assessments, which were performed across two rounds of surveys on 28 th and 29 th August and 16 th -18 th September 2025. A total of 8 hours of active searches were undertaken by two ecologists. Incidental observations and secondary sign observations were also noted during traversal of the Project area. Secondary signs of animals can provide indirect records of species presence and activity (Eyre et al. , 2022), and may include tracks, scratches, feeding marks, scats, nest, roosts, feathers, bones, or carcasses. Several taxa may be targeted with this approach including reptiles, nocturnal birds, medium to large terrestrial mammals, arboreal mammals, and volant mammals. Incidental observations include any species observation (visual and/or auditory) recorded while traveling between sites or outside of active survey searches. Species observed with these methods have been included in the Project area observed species list.
