Assessment

Therefore, the Project will not fragment an existing population.

Unlikely

There are no confirmed records of the species within the Project area. There is one recent record of the species 2 km north of the Project area. While there is potential habitat for the species within the Project area, the area is highly disturbed and it is unlikely that there is a population within the Project area that could be impacted. The project is situated on the interface between a large area of remnant vegetation and a large area of non-remnant cleared land associated with the Mount Morgan Mine. As such, the project is not expected to isolate or fragment any patches of habitat. Therefore, the Project is unlikely to result in genetically distinct populations forming as a result of habitat isolation Invasive flora species have been identified within the Project area. Several of the larger and more competitive invasive weed species (ie. Lantana, African fountain grass, etc) are likely to have the potential to establish and outcompete Quassia . An EMP will address the potential spread of invasive weeds to prevent the establishment of invasive plants communities within the project area and limit the potential for spread of invasive plants into the surrounding landscape. Accordingly, the project is considered unlikely to result in invasive species that are harmful to an endangered species becoming established in the endangered species’ habitat No diseases are currently listed as potential threats to Quassia . As such, the Project is considered unlikely to introduce disease that may cause the decline of adjacent populations. There are no confirmed records within the Project area. The closest record are present 2 km from the Project area. Though 9.41 ha potential habitat RE 11.10.1 is present in the Project area, it is highly disturbed. Surrounding regions of the Project area have suitable habitat and additional REs that can support this species. As such, the Project is considered unlikely to interfere with the recovery of the species. There are no confirmed records within the Project area. The closest records are present 2 km from the Project area. Though 9.41 ha potential habitat RE 11.10.1 is present in the Project area, it is highly disturbed. Surrounding regions of the Project area have suitable habitat and additional REs that are not disturbed that can support this species. As such, the Project will not cause disruption to ecologically significant locations (breeding, feeding, nesting, migration or resting sites) of a species

4.14. Regulated Vegetation – Category B ‘Of Concern’ Regional Ecosystem 7.62 ha of Category B – Regulated Vegetation is mapped within the project area. Field verification of regional ecosystems identified RE 11.10.2, listed as Of Concern under the VM Act, within the project area. RE 11.10.2 (7.62 ha) is a sparse regional ecosystem dominated by Corymbia trachyphloia and Syncarpia glomulifera .
