Table 33. Conceptual Source Pathway Receptors Current Conditions
Mine waste / tailings area
Main sources of sub surface and groundwater flow
Main flow pathways for sub surface and groundwater flow
Main discharge points for sub surface and groundwater flow
Conceptual source-pathway-receptor summary for existing site
Shepherds Gully (Shepherds Holding sump, Shepherds No. 2 South sump)
Upgradient groundwater in shallow bedrock Shepherds Gully (water held in tailings) Negligible contribution of seepage from Sandstone Gully, Airfield Dump or Shepherds Outer Dump.
Mine waste (Shepherds Gully tailings) Shallow bedrock
Shepherds Holding sump: Toe seepage from Shepherds Gully tailings via subsurface flow and shallow groundwater flow. Shepherds 2 South sump: Shallow groundwater flow, originating from up gradient groundwater and from beneath Shepherds Gully tailings. Shepherds Spring: Shallow groundwater flow, originating from up gradient groundwater and from beneath Shepherds Gully tailings. Dee River: Predominantly as shallow groundwater flow. No. 2 Mill sump: Toe seepage from southern edge of 2 Mill tailings via subsurface flow. No. 2 Mill sump: Predominantly as shallow groundwater flow originating up gradient and from beneath 2 Mill tailings. Dairy Creek and Dee River: Predominantly as shallow groundwater flow. Mundic West sump: Sub surface flow and shallow groundwater flow predominantly originating from OCP / Sandstone Gully TSF. Frog Hollow sump: Up gradient shallow groundwater flow and sub surface flow including sub surface flow originating from Mundic West sump, with minor contribution from sub surface flow through mine waste and shallow groundwater flow through Linda Creek area. Water in Mundic East is indicated to recharge groundwater.
2 Mill (No. 2 Mill sump) Upgradient groundwater in shallow bedrock 2 Mill (water held in tailings)
Mine waste (2 Mill tailings and minor flow through Horse Paddock Dump). Shallow bedrock
Minor contribution from Horse Paddock Dump (infiltrated rainfall held in mine waste) Water stored in OCP / Sandstone Gully TSF/ Upper Mundic Gully TSF Mundic Creek mine waste (infiltrated rainfall held in mine waste) Up gradient groundwater in shallow bedrock Up gradient groundwater in shallow bedrock (Mundic Creek, Linda Creek) Red Oxide Dump (infiltrated rainfall held in mine waste) Up gradient sub surface water in mine waste (Mundic Creek and Workshop Gully)
Mundic Creek inc Upper Mundic Gully
Seepage of water from OCP / Sandstone Gully TSF/Upper Mundic Gully TSF through adjacent mine waste, and through mine waste within Mundic Creek Seepage of water through shallow bedrock of Mundic Creek and Linda Creek Through mine waste within Red Oxide Dump Through shallow bedrock of Mundic Gully and Linda Gully
Red oxide (Frog Hollow sump)
Frog Hollow: Shallow groundwater flow and sub surface flow originating through Mundic Gully and Linda Gully.
