It is understood the TSF embankment is proposed within/on the existing western waste rock dump. The application material provides conflicting information in relation to latent tailings potentially within the proposed project area. The material must address potential risks associated with latent tailings within the proposed project area
There are no latent tailings with the proposed project area. The application makes reference to historical placement of waste rock only within the Upper Mundic Gully TSF footprint. Pg 31 of application states "Additionally, positioning the TSF in this location avoids sterilization of resources as the TSF footprint will occur in an area with no known latent tailings resource recovery". Page 40 says " there are no latent tailings within the Upper Mundic Gully TSF footprint that require movement and treatment". Pg 64 states “ Error! Reference source not found. displays a photograph taken in 1942, viewed from the west looking to the east showing the waste rock material placed in the Upper Mundic Gully area. The source of this material was the OCP as the mine was transitioning from underground to open cut operations. Error! Reference source not found. shows the placement of this waste rock material from a plan view”. Figure 12 shows a polygon of historic assumed tailings storage which can be inferred as being in proximity to the OCP and Sandstone Gully TSF and not within the Upper Mundic Gully TSF footprint This information has been provided in the updated TSF design report The initial supporting information report stated that approval and operation of the Mundic Gully TSF is desirable to further future proof the site wide tailings/water balance capacity and further reduce the risk of environmental impacts uncontrollable release. It was never stated in the application material that the TSF would operate as a water storage structure. Section 2.1.1 of the supporting information report has been updated that make clear that the intention is for tailings to be discharge into the Upper Mundic Gully TSF and if a scenario is ever encountered where the OCP may potentially overtop, water from

Provide details on the strategy for tailings deposition, including ancillary infrastructure, potential impacts, risks, and management measures. It is suggested the TSF will operate as a water storage structure for three (3) years where water may be pumped to this structure from either Sandstone Gully TSF or the Open Cut Pit (OCP). After this period, deposition of tailings will occur. The department requires a clear understanding of the intention of the structure. From my understanding the structure is intended to be a TSF so please ensure documentation aligns with the intended purpose.
