The CHIMA sets requirements for undertaking operational activities at the Mount Morgan Mine. Heritage
Minerals will continue to comply with all requirements of the CHIMA as it relates to both site operations
and these proposed amendments.
6.8.2. Non-Indigenous Heritage
6.8.2.1. Values
The Mount Morgan Mine is recognised under the provisions of the Queensland Heritage Act 1992 for
its non-Indigenous (historic) values relating to the built and archaeological landscape found within this
site. It is listed under the Queensland Heritage Register, maintained by the Administering Authority and
the Queensland Heritage Council. The Mount Morgan Mine is listed on the former Register of the
National Estate and the State Heritage Register. Mining operations have been conducted since 1882
and the associated infrastructure is deemed to have historical interest. Included on the Registers are
the old mine site buildings, old plant and operation areas from pre-1981 and the caves from which clay
was procured to manufacture building bricks.
The Mount Morgan Mine is a significant historic cultural landscape, enabling interpretation by visitors
of the reminders of an important facet of Queensland’s gold mining history while providing visitors with
a cultural heritage experience.
