EA Condition
Action Program
W36 The administering authority may after two years of reviewing local water monitoring data from the holder of the environmental authority, amend Table W7 – Receiving water monitoring. Water sampling method W37 The method of water sampling required by this environmental authority must comply with that set out in the administering authority's Monitoring and Sampling Manual (2009) or more recent edition. Catchment reporting to the Mount Morgan open cut pit W38 The holder of the environment authority must only undertake mining activities that result in no change to, or a reduction of the effective catchment reporting to the Mount Morgan Open Cut Pit. Mount Morgan open cut pit – Water quality W39 The holder of the environment authority must only undertake mining activities that result in no change to or an improvement in water quality reporting to the Mount Morgan Open Cut Pit. W40 Water in the Open Cut Pit must be monitored at the locations and frequencies defined in Table W8 – Open cut water quality monitoring locations and frequency and for the contaminants defined in Table W7 – Receiving water monitoring.
If data is collected for two years after the commencement of mining, site specific receiving water triggers may be reviewed by the administering authority. Water sampling methodology will comply with the most recent version of the administering authority's Monitoring and Sampling Manual , once receiving water sampling is required under the EA. Only minor activities will occur on site during the term of this PoO. Once mining activities commence, there will be no planned increase in catchment area for the Mount Morgan Open Cut Pit. Once mining activities have commenced, efforts will be taken to ensure activities do not to result in negative change to the Mount Morgan Open Cut Pit. Upon commencement of mining, water quality will be monitored at the locations and frequencies defined in Table W8 – Open cut water quality monitoring locations and frequency to demonstrate compliance with the contaminant limits in Table W7 – Receiving water monitoring. If during the course of monitoring it is found that the contaminant limits in Table W7 – Receiving water monitoring have been exceeded, then the following investigation will be implemented: ⚫ Identification of the potential source(s) of contamination; ⚫ The results of the monitoring would be compared to the background monitoring data; ⚫ Further monitoring to determine environmental harm would be conducted if necessary; ⚫ Mitigation strategies will be developed if necessary; and ⚫ All monitoring results would be compiled into a report and presented to the administering authority in writing within three months of receiving the analysis results.
