Figure 6.3

Contour map of inferred groundwater table

Groundwater Dependent Ecosystems (GDE) data and groundwater borehole locations were retrieved from the GDE Atlas [29] and Queensland Globe [30], respectively, for the vicinity of the Mt Morgan site. Figure 6.4 illustrates the local aquatic and terrestrial GDEs, as well as the water supply boreholes, against a 1 km and 10km radii from the proposed Upper Mundic Gully TSF. Although no water supply bores are within 1 km of the proposed TSF, low and moderate potential terrestrial GDEs are intersected by this radius. Two monitoring bores are located east of the facility, near Mt Morgan Mine’s Dam 8. The affected GDEs are upslope of the seepage flow direction, so significant impacts are not expected. Within a 10 km radius, moderate potential aquatic GDEs were identified southwest of the facility along natural drainage lines, and high potential terrestrial GDE’s to the north, in addition to the ones located within the shorter range. Water supply bores southeast of the TSF are all located more than 1 km away and on the opposite banks of Dee River, so significant impacts on them are not expected considering the groundwater flow direction. Bores primarily used for purposes other than water supply were also identified within this area.
