As the Upper Mundic Gully TSF alignment was proposed to be adjacent to the mine spoil dump, a significant portion of the storage capacity will be contained behind that structure, with the embankment tying-in to its top surface. It is unlikely that a dam breach would erode through the dump surface; therefore, it was assumed that no material below the dump crest elevation would be released. As shown in the cross section presented in Figure 4.2, the tailings beach for Stage 1 is entirely contained behind the mine spoil dump, and a breach through the embankment would only occur from above RL 353.5 m. For this scenario, no failure cone or tailings release is expected, and the outflow would consist solely of stored decant water.
