The peak outflows for the two embankment stages presented in Table 4.4 have been validated against published research and studies on available historic dam failures and peak discharge. Historical peak discharges are plotted against the calculated dam height in Figure 4.7.

The estimated peak discharges for the Upper Mundic Gully TSF failure outflow hydrographs fall within the general envelope of historical dam failure releases. Although it should be noted that the peak discharge is affected by multiple factors (including embankment geometry, embankment type and impoundment volume), the estimated peak discharge is a reasonable estimate for this assessment.
