4.1.3 Soils Soils across the project are largely reflect the underlying geologies with Volcanic hills and mountains with eucalypt forest in north-east. The major soil types occurring in the project area based on the Australian Soil Classification mapping are Rudosols. These soils have a low fertility and low water-holding capacity and are often shallow, stony soils with minimal organic matter accumulation on the surface. 4.2 Survey effort The field survey covered the project area or survey area (refer to Section 1.4.1 for survey limitations). Conditions during the survey from 7 April – 9 April 2025 (Rockhampton Aero, station 039083) were warm, reaching a peak temperature of 30.1 ° C and a low of 19.7 ° C. There was no rainfall during the survey, however there was 168.4mm of rainfall in the week prior to the survey (BOM, 2025). A summary of survey efforts for flora and fauna is presented in Table 4.3.
