Several invasive species are known to occur within the Project area and surrounds, including several invasive plants, feral cats, dogs, pigs, foxes, and cane toads. Cane toads and feral cats are two of the biggest threats to the NQ (Hill & Ward, 2010). Cane toads are already well established within the project area, and currently, there are limited options for controlling their populations in Queensland (DSEWPC, 2011). While the clearing and maintenance of access tracks could increase the movement of feral predators in the region, these risks will be mitigated through measures outlined in the EMP.

Unlikely

There is no direct evidence that disease has contributed to population declines in northern quolls (Hill and Ward, 2016). The Project is expected to have minimal potential to introduce or amplify disease transmission within the local quoll population. As such, the Project is unlikely to introduce disease that may cause the species to decline. While approximately 19.95 hectares of potential foraging habitat will be removed, similar quality habitat remains widely available throughout the region. No potential breeding or denning sites will be affected as no suitable ones were identified. The Project will not significantly impact local habitat connectivity or cause habitat fragmentation. Indirect impacts from construction and operation will be minimised through the implementation of mitigation measures outlined in the EMP

7.10.1.10 Regulated Vegetation – Category B ‘Of Concern’ Regional Ecosystem 7.62 ha of Category B – Regulated Vegetation is mapped within the project area. Ground-truthing of regional ecosystems RE 11.10.2 (7.62 ha), listed as Of Concern under the VM Act, within the project area. RE 11.10.2 is a sparse regional ecosystem dominated by Corymbia trachyphloia and Syncarpia glomulifera . Impacts to regulated vegetation exceed criteria 1 of the significant residual impact test in Table 1 of the guidelines and therefore there is a significant residual impact as demonstrated in Table 62.
