Mount Morgan Mine Upper Mundic Gully TSF EA Amendment

Other Areas ‘In the Wild’ Should insufficient quantities of seed be collected from the impact site or recipient site for propagation to adequately compensate for translocation losses, additional seed will be sourced (subject to approval if from ‘wild’ areas) from the plants elsewhere on the mining lease. Plants deemed to not be in the wild will be the focus of these activities as no approval is required to collect these seeds and it will further preserve and strengthen the local genetic pool. These seed will be identified and recorded into the database and then forwarded to the recipient nursery (Section 5.2.5). Chain of Custody All ripe seeds found will be placed in a bag and numbered to correspond with the parent plant. The seed will be counted and recorded at • collection • viability test • into the recipient nursery • every year at the nursery, account for losses and report progress • out of the nursery At each stage in the process the ‘parent number’ will be kept with that particular seed. The recipient nursery will also keep this number with each seed through it’s various transitions, using standard nursery pot tags to keep each seed/tubestock identified. Surplus seeds collected or tubestock grown will be made available to Botanic Gardens or scientific institutions for study and display, further enhancing the genetic variation available in botanic collections. 5.8 Planting of tubestock Seed collected will be identified and recorded into the database and then forwarded to the experienced recipient nursery (Section 5.2.5) for propagation. Given the limited seed availability and lengthy propagation time for the species, it may take 3 - 5 years before tubestock seedlings are available for planting. Tubestock seedling development (growth, health, survival) will be regularly checked with the nursery and planting timeframes adjusted according. Tubestock seedlings will ideally be hardened off at least 3 months prior to planting. Prior to planting, an aluminium tag will be attached to each seedling with a unique identifier and recorded in the database with the corresponding parent number. Planting will follow the same method described above in Section 5.6 for the wild collected seedlings.
