Mount Morgan Mine Upper Mundic Gully TSF EA Amendment

Chain of Custody All ripe seeds found will be placed in a bag and numbered to correspond with the parent plant. The seed will be counted and recorded at • collection • viability test • into the recipient nursery • every year at the nursery, account for losses and report progress • out of the nursery At each stage in the process the ‘parent number’ will be kept with that particular seed. The recipient nursery will also keep this number with each seed through it’s various transitions, using standard nursery pot tags to keep each seed/tubestock identified. Surplus seeds collected or tubestock grown will be made available to Botanic Gardens or scientific institutions for study and display, further enhancing the genetic variation available in botanic collections. Should insufficient quantities of seed be collected from the impact site for propagation to adequately compensate for transplanting losses, additional seeds will be sourced from an off-site seed orchard. Early Collection It may also be prudent to take a proactive approach and undertake early seed collection activities within the impact area prior to vegetation clearing, once project approval is granted. Confirmation will be sought from The Department of the Environment, Tourism, Science and Innovation (DETSI) that such early works could be undertaken under the broader approval once granted. A protected plant harvesting permit will not be required as collection will be undertaken under the conditions of exemptions listed in Section 1.4.3. Recipient Site Any ripe seeds of G. hockingsii found in the recipient site during maintenance and monitoring events shall be dispersed around the recipient site to facilitate the ongoing establishment of G. hockingsii at the recipient site. This manual dispersal shall involve pressing each seed into the surface of the soil (just covering it) in a suitable micro-site with a slight depression and sparse surrounding vegetation to promote germination and seedling survival. Seeds dispersed by this technique shall be allowed to germinate and grow naturally and shall not be subject to supplementary watering.
