EA Condition
Action Program
(c) carried out with spatial and temporal replication to make statistically valid conclusions about the presence or absence of contamination or other impact. W24 Groundwater quality in monitoring bores listed in Table W3 – Groundwater monitoring locations and frequency must not exceed the contaminant trigger levels defined in Table W4 – Groundwater contaminant trigger levels. W25 Groundwater, affected by the mining activities must be monitored at the locations and frequencies defined in Table W3 – Groundwater monitoring locations and frequency. W26 Subject to condition W24 to W25, if the groundwater trigger levels defined in Table W4 – Groundwater contaminant trigger levels are exceeded then the environmental authority holder must, within a reasonable and practical timeframe nominated by the administering authority, complete an investigation into the potential for environmental harm and notify the administering authority within twenty-eight (28) days of receiving the analysis results.
Active mining is not projected for the current PoO. Upon the commencement of mining activities, groundwater sampling will be conducted in accordance with condition W24. Active mining is not projected for the current PoO. Upon the commencement of mining activities, groundwater sampling will be conducted in accordance with condition W25. This condition is applicable once the EA holder commences mining activities, as per EA condition A3. If during this time it is found that the contaminant levels in Table W4 – Groundwater contaminant trigger levels have been exceeded, then the following investigation will be undertaken: ⚫ Identification of the potential source(s) of contamination; ⚫ The results of the monitoring would be compared to the background monitoring data; ⚫ Further monitoring to determine environmental harm would be conducted if necessary; and ⚫ Mitigation strategies will be developed if necessary. All monitoring results would be compiled into a report and presented to the administering authority in writing within 28 days of receiving the analysis results. DNRME currently operates and maintains the seepage collection system.
Site seepage management W27 The holder of the environmental authority must operate and maintain the existing seepage collection system or an equivalent or improved seepage collection system, where the existing seepage collection system has been modified to facilitate operational activities, to collect and manage any expressions of water within the works area. Such waters must not be discharged to the environment and shall be returned to the existing site water management system, or discharged to a secure storage. W28 The holder of the environmental authority must monitor seepage rates and water quality at specified points within the seepage collection system. Where practical major sources of seepage are to be delineated into areas and monitored separately. W29 The holder of the environmental authority must establish background conditions for each delineated seepage area, being either the minimum three month
