1 Introduction The Heritage Minerals (Heritage) Mount Morgan Tailings Reprocessing and Rehabilitation Project (the ‘Project’) will reprocess tailings which will then be stored in new tailings storage facilities (TSFs). Heritage has identified a potential area for additional tailings storage within ‘Upper Mundic Gully’ (formerly referred to as Wattle Gully), behind an existing mine spoil dump, as indicated in Figure 1.1. Heritage has requested WSP to assess the potential capacity for a tailings storage facility (TSF) within ‘Upper Mundic Gully’ and prepare a concept level design. An options assessment study was previously undertaken by WSP [1] to assess the battery limits and construction staging for the TSF design. Two options were developed as part of the assessment:
— Option 1 – Final crest elevation of RL 383 m — Option 2 – Final crest elevation of RL 390 m.
Option 2 was chosen to progress to a conceptual design.

1.1 Background
The Mount Morgan mine site is located approximately 38 km southwest of Rockhampton. Mining at Mount Morgan commenced in 1881 and continued until the mine was closed in 1980. Treatment of tailings was undertaken between 1982 and 1991, with the Queensland Government taking over management of the site in 1992. During the life of the mine, tailings has been deposited into several tailings dams located around the mine site.
