Upper Mundic Gully is located north of the historic Sandstone Gully TSF behind a mine spoil dump. Based on a review of aerial imagery (available through the Queensland Government’s QImagery online service) the progression of the mine spoil dump from 1950 to the late 1960’s across the entrance of Upper Mundic Gully caused stormwater to pond at the base of the gully. The historic imagery, highlighting key features of the mine progression, is provided in Appendix A. A stormwater diversion tunnel was excavated to the northeast of Upper Mundic Gully in the early 1980’s to divert the ponded water from Upper Mundic Gully to Dam 8, located to the east of the gully.
