Furthermore, in addition to the tailings outflow, all decant water above the lowest intersection point of the decant pond and the tailings failure cone surface will be mobilised. An indicative diagram depicting the failure volume is presented in Figure 4.1.

As the Upper Mundic Gully TSF alignment was proposed to be adjacent to the mine spoil dump, a significant portion of the storage capacity will be contained behind that structure, with the embankment tying-in to its top surface. It is unlikely that a dam breach would erode through the dump surface; therefore, it was assumed that no material below the dump crest elevation would be released.
