Department Interest – Waste Storage of tyres E1

No activities to be undertaken on site during the term of this PoO will produce scrap tyres.

Tyres stored awaiting disposal or transport for take-back, recycling, or waste-to- energy options — should be stockpiled in volumes less than six hundred (600) m 3 in volume and two hundred (200) m 2 in area and at least ten (10) metres from any other tyre storage area. All reasonable and practicable fire prevention measures must be implemented, including removal of grass and other materials within a ten (10) metres radius of the scrap tyre storage area. E2 Where take-back, recycling or waste-to-energy is impracticable and all other stages (options) in the waste hierarchy have been considered, scrap tyres resulting from the mining activities may be disposed of on the mine site in accordance with condition E4 and E5. Disposing of scrap tyres resulting from the mining activities in waste rock emplacements is acceptable, provided tyres are placed as deep in the waste rock as reasonably practicable. Disposal of tyres E3 E4 E5 Scrap tyres resulting from the mining activities disposed within the operational land must not impede saturated aquifers or compromise the stability of the consolidated landform.
